Why natural cosmetics are so important?

Nowadays we are surrounded by a chemical world supported by large cosmetics companies. Every day we are watching commercials showing how big results we can achieve using artificially made creams, lotions and shampoos.

Everyone wants to stay young forever but you must be aware that using all of this chemical stuff can just ruin your health. There is numerous of famous brands, cosmetics they produce, that have a harmful influence on our body and health. Imagine that cosmetics companies are using the same ingredients as industrial factories! Yes, that’s true! To remove grease from the machines they use the same substance you have in your shampoo. Can you imagine what kind of effects it can bring to you?

How to protect myself from buying toxic cosmetics?

The best way to avoid any adverse health effects is making a more conscious choice when shopping. Before buying any cosmetic, check the ingredients they were made of. Of course at first glance it looks not really familiar as they usually have Latin names, although you can easily check everything online. Only a little research will already startle you. There is a lot of websites showing “red lists”. We recommend you also take a look at http://www.safecosmetics.org/get-the-facts/chemicals-of-concern/. Here are some examples, as basic as some ingredients in our shampoos, soaps and creams.

Examples of toxic ingredients

Sodium laureth sulfate, PEG compounds, chemicals (all with 1,4-dioxane) that include the clauses xynol, ceteareth and oleth - carcinogen linked to organ toxicity, may be found in as many as 22 percent of the more than 25.000 cosmetics products. You can find it in products that create suds, such as shampoo, liquid soap and bubble bath.

Benzophenone - benzophenone-2 (BP2) and oxybenzone (benzophenone-3 or BP3) Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) - used in personal care products such as lip balm, nail polish, foundations, baby sunscreens, fragrance, shampoo, conditioner, hair spray, moisturizers, and foundation to protect the products from UV light. These chemicals are linked to cancer, endocrine disruption, and organ system toxicity.

Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) are used as preservatives in a variety of personal care products. Both of these chemicals are also used as preservatives in foods. These chemicals are linked to several health concerns including endocrine disruption and organ-system toxicity.

Formaldehyde and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives (FRPs) are used in many personal care products, particularly in shampoos and liquid baby soaps. Formaldehyde is a colorless, strong-smelling gas used in a wide range of industries and products including building materials, walls, cabinets furniture and personal care products. These chemicals, which help prevent microbes from growing in water-based products, can be absorbed through the skin and have been linked to cancer and allergic skin reactions.

Parabens are preservatives used in a wide variety of personal care products and foods to prevent the growth of microbes (found in shampoos, conditioners, lotions, facial and shower cleansers and scrubs). These endocrine-disrupting chemicals can be absorbed through skin, blood and the digestive system. Parabens are linked to endocrine disruption, cancer, developmental and reproductive toxicity.
